Rainer P. and the former border officer Uwe W. planned their escape in May 1977. They had inspected the situation along the border. Entering from the backyard of Kremmener Strasse 8, they were able to get passed the inner wall, the border signal fence and all the other obstacles without difficulty. Uwe W. helped Rainer P. climb over the border wall but was then arrested at Ruppiner Strasse by border guards before he could climb over the Wall himself.
