At midday on December 6, 1961, Private K. was on duty at Strelitzer Straße. He stood directly in front of the Wall. His guard leader was monitoring Strelitzer Straße, sixty meters away. A screen positioned between them prevented the squad leader from seeing K. when he climbed over the Wall shortly past noon. Private K. had been transferred from the riot police to border duty and was critical of the Wall because it separated families. His brother and sister lived in the West.
