Monika Schaar, who originally came from East Berlin, got married on September 8, 1961. Because of the border closure, the bride’s parents, who lived at Bernauer Straße 9, were not able to attend the wedding ceremony in West Berlin. When Monika Schaar and her husband visited her parents, they presented the newlyweds with flowers.
